Summer Camps 2014

Since 1992, Rocks and Ropes has hosted summer climbing camps. Thousands of children of all ages and climbing abilities have found out that our camp is the most fun, unique and safe way to make your summer exciting and educational.

Never Climbed? Been to Climbing Camp before? Either way, no problem. Climbing is a sport that allows beginning and experienced climbers to climb together and still be able to learn. For beginners, no climbing experience is necessary. If a child has been to our camp before, he or she will continue to have fun and improve as a climber. Climbing is always challenging, interesting and enjoyable.

We offer 3 camps:

Rock 1

is designed for ages 5-7 (by 1/1/14). This small class size ensures that we go at a rate that is perfect for this young age. Under close supervision we teach these little ones the basics of knot-tying, rope-technique cooperation and responsibility. We set the ground-work for our future members and the safety of our sport.

Rock 2

is designed for kids 8-10 (by 1/1/14). Instructors start at the very beginning for new climbers, teaching all the basics in safe climbing. After, special attention is paid to each child to ensure, regardless of ability, that child is able to develop and improve as a climber while having a great time. includes one day of rock-climbing on Mt. Lemmon.

Rock 3

is designed for kids 11-15 (by 1/1/14). Once the climbing fundamentals are taught, the climbers learn advanced techniques and skills to prepare for 2 days of outdoor climbing.

How old do I have to be?

Any child 5 years and older is welcome to participate in the camp. Children learn and climb with their peers.

Is it safe?

Without the proper knowledge, climbing can be unsafe. The instructors are experienced climbers with expertise in safety and climbing technique. Also trained in FirstAid/CPR. To compliment the technical knowledge, the entire staff are great with kids. They love to teach and look forward to a rewarding summer.

8 Instructors/Guides with "Single-Pitch Instructor" Certification through the

American Mountain Guides Association.

includes 2 Instructors/Guides with "Rock Instructor Training"

Whether a climber is new or experienced, special attention is paid to every child. Our ratio provides a supervised environment that enhances the climbing experience, making it safe, educational and fun. All participants must have the waiver form signed by their parent or guardian prior to participating in any activities. All climbing equipment is provided at the gym; just wear some comfortable clothes. Students should bring a sack lunch each day.
